Historically the Fisher Tag is one of the newest additions to Wisconsin trapping history. 1985 was the first year for these and only 300 lucky trappers around the state were issued one. In 1987 some trappers were issued a Fisher Tag with "WDNR -87" stamped on it instead of the usual markings. The 1994 trapping season was the last year for the metal tag but starting in 1995 the first paper tag was issued and that continues today.
